One of our volunteer efforts is to promote the community and camaraderie that revolves around bicycling. We provide bikes to kids and adults in the local communities who wouldn’t otherwise be able to join in this activity. We provide free workshops focused on bike safety and maintenance and help organize bike give-aways, rides and events to promote continued awareness.

Our mission is to provide free bicycles to anyone who needs one.

  • We do this to provide basic transportation to those who need it the most. We believe in enabling people of all ages and all walks of life to get to work, school, the store, etc. – the freedom to go where they want, when they want.
  • We believe in promoting a healthy lifestyle.
  • We believe in doing our part to preserve the environment.

But mostly, we do this because it helps build a better society.

A community where people come together and give back to people in need.

A community where people come together to learn about each other and from each other.

How can you help?

In order for us to impact as many communities and people as possible, we need donated bikes, parts, shop supplies, helmets, and other accessories. We need volunteers to donate their time and talent in repairing bikes and assisting in workshops. We also need monetary donations to help support our efforts.

Africa, Here We Come!

Africa, Here We Come!

On November 3rd, we loaded 31 bikes to be shipped to West Africa. This was a monumental chapter in this book called Life-Cycle. You have to rewind back 18 months to the summer of 2011 to understand where this Africa project came from… At our previous warehouse, one of our bike repair volunteers asked me what our next goal would be. We had grown significantly in both the number of bikes donated to us as well as the number of bikes we distributed back out to the community. I sensed the the question was rooted in the number of bikes we...

This summer, we teamed up with Life Time Fitness in Chanhassen to drive more awareness around what we do here at Project Life-Cycle. After understanding that we take in gently used, donated bikes, repair them with volunteer help, and redistribute them back into the communities, members of Life Time Fitness in Chanhassen donated 129 bikes in just two short months! We would like to extend a sincere Thank You to every member and staff who was involved in this bike drive. This level of support truly differentiates our community and its...

2012 The Longest Day – 15h 36m 54s over in a flash

Posted by on Jun 21, 2012 in Life-Cycle | 2 comments

From sunrise… to sunset. 15 hours. 36 minutes. And 54 seconds. I didn’t know what to expect when we signed up to form a team to support the Alzheimer’s Association’s The Longest Day event. With only a few weeks to prepare, Cliff and I scrambled, called some friends, found a launch site, designed banners, printed some t-shirts, and coordinated 11 shifts and 2 routes for bikers, runners, and walkers (and scooters!). Team Life-Cycle was born. The day came and the weather wasn’t great. We set up our checkpoint at...

We were asked recently about our biking project history and I started to list out the number of bikes we’ve collected and distributed the past four years. As I was doing that, I started to consolidate a few more stats and by the time I was done, the numbers surprised me. So I thought I’d share these two graphs with all of you and give everyone who has ever helped us on this project a big THANK YOU. To all our partner organizations, families, and individuals who have contributed to the ongoing community impact project called...

On Wednesday, June 20th, the Alzheimer’s Association is challenging everyone to a 16 hour endurance activity called The Longest Day and A Better Society is taking them on! We have created a team (Team Life-Cycle) on their website and need YOU to help pedal as long as you can with us on that day to raise funds for Alzheimer’s care, support and research. If you want to join our team, all you need to do is sign up online for one or more “shifts”. We’ve set up 60-90 minute shifts throughout the day from 5:30 am to 9:00 pm....

Dear Friends and Neighbors, In service of A Better Society, we are organizing a Bike Collection and need your help! We accept donated gently used bikes, helmets, and other accessories all year. Donated bikes that need minimal maintenance (tires pumped up, gears adjusted, and chain greased) can be more quickly redistributed to families in need. Bikes and accessories may be dropped off at A Better Society’s facility (1453 Park Road, Chanhassen) any Tuesday between 6-9pm or Saturday morning between 9:30-noon. If this date/time does not...

Bike Distribution – Plenty of smiles in the rain

Posted by on May 7, 2012 in Life-Cycle | Comments Off on Bike Distribution – Plenty of smiles in the rain

Mother Nature didn’t cooperate. But that didn’t matter to over 60 kids and adults who stopped by to pick out their “new” bike. In fact, not only did they brave the cold and rainy weather, but they smiled so big it provided the volunteers the warmth and sunshine where it really mattered. Big thanks to our growing volunteer base – these bike give-aways could never happen without so many involved in the bike repair, kids activities, and logistics. New this year was a professional video crew who was on-site to get...
