Minnesota’s special day of charitable giving (Nov 15, 2018) is upon us and this year we’ve decided to take a different approach to our annual fund raiser.  Due to the success of last year’s approach to Give to the Max Day of bypassing the GiveMN administration fee of 6.9%, we are requesting donations be made directly to A Better Society.  While we still have a project page on GiveMN, please consider sending donations via check or credit card (via PayPal only 2.2% fees) so that more of your money goes directly to support our community projects.

A Better Society started as a grassroots organization to help kick start and scale community projects and this mission continues.

We are still:

  • 100% volunteer-run, ages 7-70+
  • No paid staff
  • Community supported
  • Not limited by geographic, socio-economic, religious, nor ethnic boundaries
  • Everything is provided free of charge (this includes consulting and training for schools and community groups; project management and support for social entrepreneurs; all bikes, new helmets, and locks)

Please consider making a donation to A Better Society.

Where does your money go?

Since 2008, we have continued to grow our internal programs:

Project Life-Cycle

  • Your financial support will help Project Life-Cycle to provide free, refurbished bicycles to hundreds of people throughout the Twin Cities.
  • Since 2008, we have given out over 4,000 bikes and saved 4,500 bikes from ending up in the landfill.
  • Each recipient receives a brand-new helmet and lock.
  • Many of these bikes help provide basic transportation for individuals’ freedom and recreation.
  • We provide bike repair training.
  • For the past six years, Project Life-Cycle has amassed over 1,000 volunteer hours each year which qualifies us for the President’s Volunteer Service Gold Award!

Project Life-Cycle’s mission is to provide free bicycles to anyone who needs one.

  • We do this to provide basic transportation to those who need it the most. We believe in enabling people of all ages and all walks of life to get to work, school, the store, etc. – the freedom to go where they want, when they want.
  • We believe in promoting a healthy lifestyle.
  • We believe in doing our part to preserve the environment.
  • But mostly, we do this because it helps build a better society.
  • A community where people come together and give back to people in need.
  • A community where people come together to learn about each other and from each other.

Project Impact

After many years of supporting and implementing service learning projects at multiple schools throughout the local community, A Better Society created Project Impact!  This Project, which grew from our internal projects KiDS and SecondLife programs, will be an online resource for families, teachers, schools, youth service organizations, and communities.  The goal is to help these groups develop service projects that connect real local and global needs with well-planned programs.

Over the past two years, more than 1,000 individuals have participated in this program from the following organizations:

  • Chanhassen Senior Center
  • Bluff Creek Elementary
  • Excelsior Elementary
  • Minnewashta Elementary
  • Minnetonka Middle School West
  • Minnetonka High School
  • St. Andrews Church
  • Students in Action Leadership Conference
  • Multiple Girl Scout Troops
  • Freedom Academy
